Participants shared their knowledge and contributed to our widely read and respected Recommended Practices (RPs), designed by the industry, for the industry, to encourage wildlife hazard management best practices in the aviation sector.

The AAWHG held two regular events: a biennial forum and, in the alternate years, a workshop. In 2023, following the previous year’s successful forum in Adelaide, our workshop took place on Queensland’s Gold Coast from 24–26 October.

The 2023 workshop focused on updating and finalising several of our RPs. The RPs worked on during the October workshop included: ‘Wildlife strike reporting and record keeping,’ ‘Wildlife Strike Minimisation’ (aircraft-based mitigation), and ‘Training and competency for ATC.’ An existing RP, ‘Training and competency: flight crew,’ which had a final draft available on the AAWHG website, was also reviewed and updated.

The last workshop, held in 2019 in Sydney, had record attendance, and the attendees’ wide-ranging expertise and enthusiasm contributed immensely to advancing the RPs to their current stage.
